1. When should my child start dance?
Our classes start at age three; however, not all children develop at the same rate and some three-year-olds may not be ready for class. If your child can follow directions and be separated from you for half an hour, she or he should do fine.
2. Do you start older students?
We believe it's never too late to start dancing! However, the older beginning student should be prepared to work hard to catch up and try not to get frustrated or down on her/himself if she/he doesn't pick things up right away.
3. What classes are offered for my child's age group?
Please contact us (customerservice@dancersstudiocarthage.com) for scheduling information.
4. Should my son take dance?
Absolutely! Dance develops coordination, strength, and fitness, as well as memory and concentration. This in turn enhances all other athletic performance. Many famous (and not-so-famous) male athletes have taken dance classes.
5. What kinds of dance do you teach?
We teach ballet, tap, and jazz. Some lyrical and hiphop may also be included. Tap and jazz are not offered separately because ballet is the foundation of all dance. You must learn the fundamentals of ballet to have proper technique in other types of dance. We are not currently offering any ballroom instruction.
6. When will my daughter start pointe classes?
The bones of the foot are not developed enough for pointe training until around the age of 12. Starting earlier may cause permanent damage. The pre-pointe class is designed to help strengthen the feet and ankles in preparation for pointe.
7. Do you offer private instruction?
Private dance and gymnastics instruction are available by arrangement with Mrs. Doubet or Coach Pennington. Schedules are tight so opportunities may be limited. Guest teachers Sloane Hansen and Gretchen Lutz, of Fort Worth, Texas, come to Carthage one weekend each month to coach private students of all ages in country ballroom.
8. How do I enroll?
Open enrollment sessions for dance take place in August and January, before the start of each semester. Contact us for an enrollment form or stop by the studio to speak to us in person. Gymnastics and ballroom classes are always open to new students. A $10 enrollment fee and the first month's tuition are due at the time of enrollment.
9. How much is tuition?
Tuition is figured monthly, to be paid at the first class of each month. The first hour of instruction is $45. Each additional half-hour per week adds $5. So, for example, a two-hour class would be $55 per month. Ballroom classes are $10 per person, per session. A late fee of $5 will be added to unpaid tuition each week after the 15th of the month. Returned checks will be assessed a $10 processing fee.
10. What kind of payment do you accept?
We accept cash or checks.
11. Do you offer family discounts?
For each additional student in a family, a discount of $10 per month is applied.
12. What do we need to start classes?
Our Welcome Letter outlines expected apparel for each class. The basics are tights, ballet shoes, and a leotard.
13. Where can I get dancewear?
We have a small selection of dancewear and dance bags available at the studio through The Crazy Dazy (http://www.thecrazydazy.com/). Leotards, tights, and shoes are also available at local Wal-Mart, Target, and Academy stores, as well as Dance World in Joplin. Boys' dancewear can be found online at http://www.discountdance.com/.
13. How often do you have recitals?
The Dancers' Studio does two shows per year, one in December and one in late May or early June. These are more than recitals; they are full-fledged shows with props, sets, lighting, and a theme. We pride ourselves on their quality and entertainment level.
14. How to find us?
We are located at 127 East 3rd Street in Carthage, Missouri, on the north side of the square, directly across from the Jasper County Courthouse.
15. Do I need a partner to take ballroom classes?
No, we can share partners. In fact, if you're male, expect to dance with more than one female!
16. Can I hire your dancers for an event?
Dancers may be available for special events by arrangement with Mrs. Doubet.
